This video has been the best discovery of the week! A friend in my district shared this with me, so I used it to review with my kids. Its a bit goofy, but the lyrics really have a good bit of history built in! And oh the kids loved it! Between my two classes I have watched this no less than 12 times this week. Even if you don’t teach history, I’m sure you will find it entertaining!

I LOVE this! It really made me want to teach fifth grade social studies again.
One year, I “taxed” the kids (out of our classroom bucks) and said the principal had demanded it for school supplies. This led us to standing outside the principal's window chanting “No taxation, without representation”… and she played along. Great fun!

I just saw that your have or bought Lucy Calkin's writer's workshop series. I had not heard of her or looked at her resources until this year. Our instructional coach has her program and she has helped me implement it into my classroom. I looove it and so do the kids!! It is definitely worth every penny!

Love this! We watch it every year when we do our unit on the American Revolution…the kids respond so well, and some have even been inspired to compose songs of their own based on this for our Civil War unit!

I will most definitely be using this video! I love it! What a neat find 🙂 Speaking of Lucy Calkins (playing off of what Kelley mentioned) how do you implement it into the common core/your standards such as expository research text and persuasive text? I have been really struggling. The narrative works well but the rest just doesn't seem to fit.
